WHEN INK BECOMES A JOURNEY
Christian is a Colombian tattoo artist currently living in Córdoba, Argentina. He started traveling through Ecuador, Peru, and eventually Argentina to develop his tattoo style while continuing to refine it throughout his journey. Having a strong affinity for art, he is also a skilled illustrator and painter.
OVERVIEW
He reached out to me because after years of dedication, he finally had the opportunity to open his own tattoo studio and wanted to create a brand for it. His conditions were: first, that the logo should reflect both his artistic style and personality while still being easy to recognize and readable. Second, that the logo should not break the visual harmony shared with another artistic entity using the same space.
To approach the project, I used some tattoo machines I own as visual references to study different angles and better understand the structure of the form. I also took inspiration from a bottle of black ink and from the meaning of the word “punctum”, which in Latin means “point”, and in art can refer to a focal point.
The final result was a logo fully representing the name “Neopunctum”, along with an isologo combining the letters “n” and “p” to abstractly represent a coil tattoo machine seen from the front. The point inside the symbol represents both the punctum and the ink used for tattooing. He approved the final logo because it respected the different constraints and visual directions he asked for and I was proud to work with him on this project.
